To make it the simplest use the Utility Tool for Windows developed by DigiCert.
Tool downloadThis tool is really super simple, and it bypasses all of the weird false errors you get when working with IIS. Just run the tool on the server and use it to create your CSR and install the new cert to your server.
If you have any issues with the tool stating that the private key doesn't exist, then the private key is not on the server, and you'll need to create a new one. If you did crate a CSR (Creates the private key) on this server using the Utility Tool, then double check that you have extracted the .exe file from the .zip archive you downloaded it from first. IF you run it directly from the site or the .zip archive, you will loose your private key.
If for some strange reason the Utility Tool doesn't work on your server, or you can't get it to your server, then you can use IIS to do everything.
